Who I am and what drives me.

About me

Hi there!

I’m Dan, an interdisciplinary designer with over a decade of experience helping some of the world’s most successful companies connect with their customers. I've created experiences and communication ranging from event activations and retail point-of-sale to digital campaigns, microsites, and social content.

I have also been taking classes and teaching myself the concepts, methodologies, and tools behind great UX and human-centered design. I have integrated them into my own process and advocate for their adoption by those I work with.

My approach

My journey from science to marketing, advertising, and UX has provided me with a unique perspective that is both analytical and creative. Experience has taught me the value of simple and actionable solutions, and that progress is achieved one small step at a time, especially when balancing long-term design goals with immediate business needs.

I believe design is invaluable to businesses because it enables them to foster strong, long-lasting relationships with their customers. My goal is to help users solve their problems, achieve their goals, and live better, more fulfilling lives through design. To do that, I approach every project—every problem—with a big heart. I take pride in my empathy, insight, and creativity. These qualities help give me the courage to ask tough questions and think laterally.

Human-centered design also supports companies in cultivating better work cultures and environments. It might sound cliché, but it’s true: teamwork makes the dream work. I strive to build strong working relationships with my colleagues through open communication, a dash of silliness, and sharing meals. I’ve found this not only improves the work but also helps us get through tight deadlines and late nights together.

Personal life and inspiration

I live in Pittsburgh, PA, with my wife, Marne, our daughter, Ellie, and our dog, Benny.

I am inspired by many things: the art of storytelling, stand-up comedy, philosophy, science, nature, conversation, and art and design in its many forms and origins, with a particular passion for science fiction, fantasy, and futurism.

I am fascinated by humanity’s relationship with technology and how it is affecting our lives, society, and the planet.
